This race is held each year over 3 distances from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.
We made a Headway cycle jersey to raise the awareness of Headway and to invite participation from our members and staff.
This year one of our members Jose Carvalho completed the 35 km race in an amazing 2 hours on his recumbent cycle.
Jose has been at Headway for 5 years after suffering a stroke in 2012. We applaud his determination and great effort. After the race Jose’s said he enjoyed the race very much, it was very cold in the early part of the race as he left Hillcrest at 6.15am, but the weather warmed up as the race progressed.
He was offered a lot of encouragement along the route by both competitors and supporters, particularly on the uphills.
He will definitely enter again next year.
